Members from the Alameda Democratic joined together to attend the second annual Women's March in Oakland. They met up at Wes Cafe on Webster for coffee before catching a local bus to the march. An estimated 40,000 to 50,000 marchers attended the event to show support for a variety of causes.
Our inaugural Thirsty Thursday event, hosted by our 2018 President of Activities Philip James, was a smashing success! Members braved a rainy night to join up for drinks and socializing at the Alameda Island Brewing Company.
Next month's Thirsty Thursday will be Feb. 22. Mark your calendar now and get in on the fun!
On Wednesday January 17th, CADC members Dan Wood and Cheri Johansen went to Sacramento to attend the Select Hearing on Healthcare. While there, they stopped by Rob Bonta's office to thank him for cosponsoring SB 562, the California Healthcare for All bill.
In 2017 the City of Alameda Democratic Club voted unanimously to endorse SB 562 - The Healthy California Act. If you are interested in learning more about SB 562 read here.
On January 15th we took the time to observe MLK Day. Some members of the City of Alameda Democratic Club joined the Alameda NAACP Rally outside City Hall and participated in the event's march.
CADC Co-President Gabrielle Dolphin was invited to speak at the rally in front of City Hall. If you weren't present to hear her moving speech, we've included it here for you:
In addition to attending the rally and marching, other club members stood vigil at the corner of Park and Santa Clara. These individuals held signs and reminded passersby that this wasn't just any three day weekend. Other members observed the day by committing acts of service.
A democracy only works if it's citizens participate, which is why it is so important to vote! We've already begun our voter registration campaign for 2018. Led by our Voter Registration Chair Alan Pryor, CADC members set up a table at the January 13th Farmer's Market to register voters.
In addition to our Farmer's Market Table, Program's Director Dan Wood, managed a second table the same day at the South Shore Center. Our dedicated volunteers managed to register 16 new voters!
If you're interested in volunteering for our next Voter Registration Event, it will be held on February 10th at the Alameda Farmer's Market from 9-12. Please check out our event's page for more information.
